Gameplay Issues

"After killing dinosaurs and evacuating the area, the game shows no points or trophies for the dinosaurs I've killed."
Before the hunt begins you must use your available points to obtain a license to kill certain dinosaurs. If you kill any that you are not licensed for, then they will not earn you any points and will not show up in the trophy room.

Lockups & Crashes

"Whenever I launch the game it freezes on a Black Screen or quits back to the Windows Desktop without any error message". "The game locks up or crashes randomly throughout the game."

Video Problems

"The colors or textures in the game don't display correctly."
Make sure that you have installed DirectX version 7 or higher on your system before playing. If you have already done this and the problem occurs anyway, then you'll need to update your video card drivers with the latest versions available from the manufacturer.

For more information about DirectX, please see our DirectX Frequently Asked Questions.

To learn how to update your video card drivers, refer to our How to Update your Drivers FAQ.
"There are black boxes all over the screen."

Installation Problems

"The game starts to install, but then stops partway through." "Nothing happens when I insert the game CD into my CD-ROM drive."
The Windows 95/98 AutoPlay feature may be disabled on your system. You can either enable AutoPlay, or install the game using the Manual installation instructions as listed at the top of this document.

For help with enabling AutoPlay, please see our Windows 95/98 General Troubleshooting FAQ.

Sound Problems

"I can't hear any sound or music in the game."
    1. Make sure that your speakers are turned on and any volume controls on them are turned up.
    2. Check your Windows volume settings by clicking on the small yellow speaker icon on your taskbar.

If none of the steps above work, then make sure you have installed DirectX version 7 from the CD, or the latest version available from Microsoft. If you have already tried this too, then you'll need to update your sound card drivers to the latest version available from the manufacturer.

For more information about DirectX, please see our DirectX Frequently Asked Questions.

To learn how to update your video card Drivers, refer to our How to Update your Drivers FAQ.

Standard Tropubleshooting

"I've encountered a problem that was not mentioned in this document."
  1. REBOOT your computer after installation, especially if you needed to install or update DirectX. Several updated system files are copied to your hard drive during installation, which can't take effect until you reboot.

  2. Make sure that your system meets the minimum system requirements as listed on the box and at the top of this document. If your system does not meet or exceed the minimum requirements, it will run poorly, or not at all.

  3. Shut down all other programs that you may have running on your system prior to playing Deer Hunter 3: The Legend Continues. Other programs can interfere with the operation of the game. For detailed instructions on shutting down all of your other applications, please see our Windows 95/98 General Troubleshooting FAQ.

  4. Make sure you have plenty of room left you your hard drive, or Windows may not have enough room for a swap file. This can cause some very strange problems.

  5. Make sure that the CD itself is not dirty or damaged in any way. If the CD is dirty, it can be cleaned. Most computer stores carry inexpensive CD-ROM cleaning kits that will safely restore your CD. If you want to try cleaning the CD without a kit, you can wash the CD using lukewarm water, MILD NON-ABRASIVE dish soap, and a very soft and clean COTTON cloth. Do NOT use any kind of paper product or abrasive soap to clean the CD, as these WILL scratch! Once the CD is clean, be sure to let the CD dry completely before inserting it into your CD-ROM, or damage may result.

  6. If the CD is scratched or physically damaged in any way, you may need to send it in for replacement. For our mailing address and other important information regarding replacements, please see our Consumer Service Policies and Information.

  7. Try uninstalling, and then re-installing the game.
