"I love this game. Everything about it. I think that Atari should consider another sequal. Seeing as there are no good space sims out there. This game was ahead of it's time and it's saga should not end."
- Jeremy from Kansas
"I picked up Independence War (the 1st one which was only released for Voodoo cards) when it was released and have not found a better space sim since! Independence War 2 will work on modern graphic cards. In both games can almost feel the mass of the ship in real flight. The starship jump gates and navigation interface are unlike any other game Ive seen to date and the space scenery stands up to modern scenery very well. Again it feels like its real and not just a game. The HUD is intelligently thought out and you can manage all the stuff that goes on around you.
In realistic flight mode it feels awesome. Acceleration seems real. Hold the acceleration button for 3 minutes and it will take you 3 minutes reverse thrust to stop moving in that direction. No other game does that. There is a hyperdrive for fast getaways from enemy and a ship damage and repair model that seems real to me. If you dont manager your damage you may not survive a situation. So good strategy on damage repair and use of wingmen will get you through.
All in all this game is for the sim enthusiast but will not leave the arcade type behind.
Accelerating to light speed once you start moving in one direction you continue in that until you counter your it mode (you can turn on simplistic model) and you can overshoot a target in dogfight if not careful. If you move in one direction you keep moving in that until you counter it. Even in 2007 its a great sim."
- Pete from Illinois
"Simply put, Edge of Chaos is the best space combat game ever made. Even five years after its release, it stands as a testament to the talent, genius and artistic skill of the developers at Particle Systems (a studio which sadly died an early death).
The game takes place in a fully realized and beautifully rendered space-scape, in which the player is free to explore and pirate at will. The interface is clean and intuitive, and the flight model approximates newtonian physics, making an absolute mockery of competing space combat games.
If you can find a copy of this game, you owe it to yourself to install it and give it a go. You won't be disappointed."
- Chris from California

Now it's time for vengeance. Now it's time to turn back the Corporations before they corrupt the entire universe. Now it's time to take control of the universe's most advanced interstellar hardware and wage war in the greatest space-sim ever conceived. Command four futuristic battlecruisers and a band of revolutionary pirates into an all-consuming battle against impossible odds...because there just isn't enough Space for everyone! |
- Innovative user-friendly interface - 90% of functions can be programmed where you like - on the joystick or on the keyboard or both!
-
Online multiplayer support for up to 8 people. Play DeathMatch, Capture the Flag, and various other unique scenarios.
-
The revolutionary Flux™ Graphics Engine: Microsoft Direct3D® compatible - surface effects like rust, decay and wear on the ships, and stunning fire and flare effects. All ships in the game are modeled using the textures and details from the ships created for the CGI movies.
-
Physically realistic flight model. All ships use a Newtonian mechanics simulation and move according to the same rules as real spacecraft. This includes a simulation of both linear and angular momentum, inertia and rotational moment of inertia. Ships can use either a free-flight mode or use computer-assisted fly-by-wire flight controls.
-
Team-up on the enemy with detachable fighters. Keep them on-board as murderous gun turrets or order them to attack as wingmen.
-
Superior non-linear gameplay spanning 16 star systems, interacting with dynamically-created space traffic.
-
Command 4 flyable ships and over 30 weapons and ship accessories that can be used in near-infinite combinations.
-
Get to know the locals. Examples include taxicab ships, freighters, space patrols, and pirates.
-
Watch the space opera unfold through a rich storyline in four acts.
