Sound Problems

This is an indication that DirectX was not successfully installed. To correct this, simply re-install DirectX from the CD.1. Go to Start, then Find, then click on File or Folders.2. In the Named field, type Dxsetup.exe. Make sure the Look in field specifies the CD-ROM drive.3. Click on Find Now.4. Double click on Dxsetup.exe and click on the Reinstall DirectX button.5. Restart the system when prompted.

There are updated drivers available that are DirectX compatible that will correct this problem. They are available for download from www.ensoniq.com or www.creativelabs.com. depending on whether your card was manufactured by Ensoniq or by Creative Labs.

The DirectX setup program has determined that there is not enough free uncompressed harddrive space to install DirectX. Remove any unneeded files and or applications to free up some space on the C: drive, then reinstall DirectX.

This will occur if the setup program for DirecfX detects an internal error. The main reason for this error is that Dsetup.dll could not load the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files. To correct this, rename the dsetup16.dll and dsetup32.dll files.1. Go to Start, choose Find, choose Files or Folders.2. When DirectX installs, the processor emulates Soundblaster, so DirectX installs the certified Sound Blaster drivers, but they do not work with the Cyrix MediaGX. Compaq has available a service pack that will install the proper drivers, and also adds DirectX certification for the sound card. To determine if you have this MediaGX processor, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab, and then click the '+' sign by Sound, Video and Game Controllers. If you see either XpressAUDIO 16-bit Sound or Cyrix XpressAUDIO listed, then you have this processor and will need to get the service pack from Compaq to correct this problem.

Make sure the slider bar is all the way to the right, and it is set for Quad-speed or higher.

RubikĘs Games has only one puzzle type which supports multiplayer features(Paint War). To initialize a multiplayer game within Paint War, you must follow the steps below :Making a Host Connection1) At the main screen, select Paint War by using the mouse cursor and the left mouse button.2) Select, Remote Player using the mouse cursor and the left mouse button.3) After the above selection has been made, you must choose the desired network protocol (IPX Connection for Direct Play, Internet TCP/IP Connection for Direct Play, Modem Connection for Direct Play, or Serial Connection for Direct Play,) choose Internet TCP/IP Connection for Direct Play,(make sure that the Enter IP Screen checkbox is unchecked).4) At the next screen, you must type a game name and depress the Next button.5) You will be taken to the Waiting for Opponent screen until the remote player connects. Rubik's Games requires the following: P133 or higher, 32 MB RAM, Windows 95/98, DirectX 6.0 compatible video card with 640 x 480 x 32K color, 8X CD-ROM drive, mouse.

The program will not work in Windows NT. The game requires direct interaction with the computers hardware which NT will not allow.

Installation

Try the following suggestions to help you install the game:1. Go to Start and choose Run.2. Type SYSEDIT in the dialog box, and click OK.3. Look in the 'C:\Autoexec.bat' window of the System Configuration Editor. Is there an entry for SET TEMP=?4. If not, start a new line and type SET TEMP=C:\windows\temp. 5. Go to File and choose Save.6. Restart your system and try the installation again. If this does not work, try the following: 1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click the C: drive icon.2. Double-click the Windows folder, then double-click the Temp folder. 3. Choose Edit, then Select All. When all the files in the Temp folder are highlighted, hit the Delete key on your keyboard. These files are just temporary files used in installations and have no practical purpose on your system. 4. Close all these windows to return to your desktop. 5. With your Right mouse button, click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and choose Properties from the menu. 6. Click the Performance tab, then the Graphics button. 7. Move the slider for 'Hardware Acceleration' one notch to the left. (It should now say ""Most Accelerator Functions"") 8. Click OK, close the window, and restart the system when prompted. 9. When your system is running again, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard, and select any item in the dialog box, except 'Explorer' and 'Systray.' Click End Task. Keep doing this until there is nothing left in the dialog box except 'Explorer' and 'Systray.'10. You should now be able to successfully install the game.
