Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown - PlayStation® Game Console

Standard Control Configurations

Following are the default controls for Duke Nukem 3D - this is 'Nukem 1'.

Standard Controller
Forward = UP
Back = DOWN
Turn Right = RIGHT
Turn Left = LEFT
Jump = R1
Crouch = R2
Select weapon = CIRCLE
Strafe = SQUARE (Hold and use Directional Buttons)
Activate/open = TRIANGLE
Fire = X
Look Up = L1
Look Down = L2
Re-Center aim = Press L1 & L2 together
Navigate Inventory = Press and hold L1 & L2. When holding these press CIRCLE to cycle through Duke's items.

NOTE: The inventory will not appear if you do not have anything.

Use Inventory Item = Hold L1 & L2 and press X
Use current Inventory Item = Press R1 & R2 together
Mighty Foot (Quick Kick) = Hold L1 & L2 and press SQUARE
Quick Turnaround = This is only on some of the default controls.

We have included a control called "Gimme a Gun". Use this when Duke is carrying a heavy weapon such as an RPG and is faced with a lot of enemies. Rather than cycle through to the chaingun, using the "Gimme a Gun" shortcut picks the most powerful, close-range weapon (pistol, shotgun or chaingun) Duke has in his inventory.

Gimme a Gun = Press and hold L1. Now press the TRIANGLE button to cycle through the three weapons mentioned above, if available.

Duke features a fine AutoMap. This lets you view a map of the areas that you have already explored. It updates automatically as you progress through the level.

AutoMap = Press SELECT. Press SELECT again to cycle between a wireframe and full color map. If you let go of SELECT after selecting your preferred map, you will stay in that mode until you press SELECT again.

Automap Zoom = In map mode, press and hold L1 & L2. Now press R1 to zoom out and R2 to zoom in on the map.

Picking up items = Just walk over them. If the item still remains behind you, then you have a full contingent of that particular item and cannot pick it up. You'll know when you need it.

Analog Controller

Duke Nukem supports the analog controller, which works in the same way as the Controller, except that you use the left stick to move Duke around the screen and the right one for strafing left/right and aiming: the directional buttons are disabled. All the other buttons function normally. Only use the "red" analog mode - choosing the 'green' mode will display a message on the screen saying that there is no controller connected. We disabled the 'green' mode because it has too few active buttons.

** Note about Analog Controllers **

The picture of a Controller under 'Controller Layout' from the Options menu, does NOT change to a picture of the Analog Controller when a Analog Controller in attached. You only need to attach the Analog Controller and choose one of the three default Controller configurations (Nukem 1, Nukem 2 and Doomed) as the Controller layouts are exactly the same except with the differences outlined above.

** A Note about Pipe Bombs **

If Duke then decides to change weapon without first detonating the bomb(s) the thumb-activated detonator will replace his hand carrying a pipebomb when cycling through his weapons. This is until he either detonates the pipebombs that he has placed or picks up one up. This is handy for letting Duke know that there maybe some undetonated bombs lying around. You can only put a maximum of 10 pipe bombs down in a single player game or a maximum of 5 in multiplayer game.

Stuck in the "Faces of Death" Level? Here's some help...

Enter the ducts and find the exit. Be careful in this new area--- there are plenty of laser trip bomb planted around the room. Actually, the safest place is in the center of the floating platform. Jump to it, Then across and hit the switches on the wall to turn of the laser tripbombs. Re-cross the lava and jump up along the wall ahead to find a secret passage that leads to some airducts. Save your game! There's a laser tripbomb trap in the duct below. Once you survive it keep going down and drop into the chamber with the exit switch inside. Hit the green atomic symbol to exit.
