After installation is complete, a game demonstration will automatically begin. You can exit the demo by hitting the "Escape" key, or by waiting for it to complete.

In order to use the hints/cheat codes, you will need to begin a "New Game" or load a previously saved game via the "Load Game" Menu item.

The "Cheat Codes" identified below are only accessible when typed within the game itself. If you "warp" to a specific "episode" or "level", you'll have to re-enter any cheat codes you want to use on the new "episode" or "level" once the action begins there. In "Doom II", there are 3 different episodes and 10 levels within each episode. There are also 2 "secret levels" included for a total of 32 different maps within the game. One of the cheat codes below tells you how to access 30 of these maps. You must find the "secret" ones yourself, sorry !

Some of the cheat codes have time limitations as well, so keep your eyes open and watch carefully. You'll be able to tell, for instance, when you will no longer have "Invisibility" or when your "Light Amplification Goggles" are fading back to the normal game light mode.

When you type in some of the cheat codes, you'll see a description appear across the top left portion of the screen. Here are the "free" cheat codes for "Doom II" that remember, must be typed within the game itself.

  • When you type IDDQD you'll be in "God Mode", which means unlimited invulnerability. You'll see a message displayed that says "DegreelessnessMode On".

  • When you type: IDKFAyou'll receive "all weapons, all door keys needed and full ammunition". You'll see a message displayed across the top left portion of the screen that says "Very Happy Ammo Added". Be careful, you'll begin with complete weapons and ammo, but depending on the weapon you use of theseven available, you may use up the ammo and need to re-type the cheat code again. Check the lower portion of the screen to determine your status. This area also displays the three door keys as blue, yellow and red skulls. The keys will be required to open the doors of the same color.

  • When you type: IDFA you'll receive "all weapons, and full ammunition". You'll see a message displayed across the top left portion of the screen that says "Ammo (No Keys) Added". Check the lower portion of the screen to determine your status. You may use up the ammo and need to re-type the cheat code again.

  • When you type: IDCHOPPERSyou'll get the chainsaw. This is hidden as weapon number one, and is not displayed under the "Arms" section on the screen. After you type this cheat code, press the number "1" to retrieve this weapon.

  • When you type: IDCLEVxx "xx" is the two-digit map number desired. Remember, there are 32 maps to play within this game, but two of them are secret maps or levels that you'll have to find yourself. For example, if you type IDCLEV21, you'll warp to map 21.

  • When you type: IDCLIP you'll have the ability to move through walls. This can come in handy when you can't find your way out of somewhere !

  • When you type: IDBEHOLD plus one of the letters displayed for the options presented on the top of the screen right afterward, you'll get that special powerup. These letters are I, R, L, V, S and A. This means:

When you type: IDBEHOLDI you'll be Invisible for a period of time.

When you type: IDBEHOLDR you'll acquire a Radiation Suit.

When you type: IDBEHOLDL you'll brighten the screen considerably as you'll now have on your Light Amplification Goggles.

When you type: IDBEHOLDV you'll possess Invulnerability for a period of time.

When you type: IDBEHOLDS you'll be into Beserk mode, where you'll have greatly increased punching power and your health will immediately boost up to 100 %. This will not affect your weapon strength.

  • When you type: IDBEHOLDA or IDDT for the first time, you are provided an "Automap", or drawing of the level or area you are currently playing. This display will only show the walls of the map, and will not display the special items or enemy positions within the map. There are 3 details to the "Automap" mode, this is the first of them. After typing either of these two cheat codes or powerups, you can get into "Automap" mode by hitting the "Tab" key. Hitting the "Tab" key is the toggle switch between game play action and the "Automap" when activated.

  • When you type: IDDT in "Automap" mode already, or IDDT for the second time within that level or episode, the screen displays you the whole map of the level and episode you're in, including all the items within that map. If you move around while in this mode, you'll be able to spot your exact position. When you type IDDT for the third time while in an episode or adventure, you'll see the map, items within the map, and all special "triggers" where something can happen to you at that location within the episode. This can include doors opening, opening lifts, encountering the enemy or monstors, stumbling into secret areas etc. Triggers are colored in yellow on the full scale "Automap". There are various colors within the map that point out lifts, different floor levels, windows, etc. Remember, there are only three levels of detail to the "Automap", so if you enter IDDT a fourth time, it'll become the first map again. Hitting the "Tab" key is the toggle switch between game play action and the "Automap" when activated.
