Unofficial MMORPG 'The World' - Sprite Competition

In the Video Game board there is a thread about making an Unofficial 'The World' however we need artists and programmers:

In this thread we are holding a competition for the best .hack Sprites that can be made for characters, root towns and dungeons to be used in RPGMaker - these sprites should be in the style of classic RPGs such as Pokemon and origonal Zelda etc.

If you have made any sprites and would like to contribute them to the game plans please post them here and they may be included in the final design for us all to play :D

for those of you who say you dont have the software all that sprites really are is a collection of those mini images, so if you were to do an image of say a character stading forward, then to the left, right and behind, maybe holding a weapon, attacking stances etc. make it small enough (i cant remember the proportions but i'll post them once ive researched into it) but a simple program such as MSPaint can make them easy, then i have the program to put them together, so try it in paint or any other drawing package, even by hand scanned in as long as its small enough

:) i hope that makes Mysty and Thaxul feel better along with anyone else who's willing to help

do you mean just to load a pic frowm the net or something, then make it smaller?

Draw a picture in any paint package of your choice, make sure its small enough and load it up here. But it has to show all the animations of the character or town, or field etc. so if the character is to walk, you want it to look like a flip book with 4 pictures or so of the character walking, it doesnt need to be complecated either, for example an image can be used more than once

e.g.

Character Stood Still -> Character with Left foot forward -> Character Stood Still (again) -> Character with Right foot forward

those 3 images make the character walk and one of the images is used twice. this would need to be drawn from a front view, left view, right view and reer view.

So 16 images around 5cm high id guess? I'll give that ago, would probably be easier to draw it large then shrink it tho wouldnt it? Also get a bit more detail in :)

Would it have to be a dotHack style or just any person? And could it be scanned then changed a bit in a colouring program?

in Paint, zoom in 8x and then you can colour in individual pixels is easy enough.

we want .hack towns and feilds

characters to be .hack style and others for more variety
also weapons and items, chests, and monsters .hack and new lol

pretty much everything .hack and more :D

im working on some stuff now that can be used as a character creator...including a load of stuff that'll make up your avatar...but to be able to make sure that everyone can get pretty different avatars its gonna take alot of work!!!!....hmmm..i think ill design some special avatars every so often and we can put them in competeitions so people can have fully custimized avatars!!!

Great idea about the avitars.

And for those of you who cant do sprites then lets go for the next best thing, design characters, scenery, monsters, weapons, armour, magic spells etc. draw whatever you want to go in, and then the people who can make sprites could use those images and sprite-ify them :P
