I hated final fantasy for years, like most people saying its crap and whats the big fuss about, then i played FF9 and was hooked, i loved it its my favourite, i watched my mate complete FF8, and now im on FF7 getting ready for the new movie FF7: Advent Children

FF-X2 looks so girlyfied its funny, my brother has it and its so funny "oh no, dont make my shoes dirty" etc :P

Bucking the trend, my fave FF single-player game is FF8. I loved the atmosphere, story and characters. Yes, even Squall (you shallow people you).

Current favourite is FFXI. Online games just beat all others :)

But since I'm here, I'll talk about FF anyway. My favourite was FF9, it was the first FF game I got to the last disk on. I couldn't get past a certain area and just gave up on it... I'll have to start playing it again soon. ^_^

I agree with anyone who has stated this already,
FFVII Kicked ass over all the other Ff's stories and thats why they're making the sequel to it in the interactive movie Advent Children. However the garphics were extremely poor, but as long as the stories good i mean hey its playable.

I played FF IX, X and X-2 and currently I'm playing VIII. I like VIII best, it's a cool story with very cool characters. My favourite characters are Squall and Seifer. I'm planning on playing the other FF's too.

mine is 9 because its like cartoony graphics, with such a serious story, i love it

i recommend you play VII next because of the movie coming soon is set 2 years after 7, and it looks amazing, and has some of the characters, but not others, it looks like WOW

well its set 2 years after the game, it includes flash backs of the game in new CG

including the Sephrioth in the Fire on disk 1 of the game, possible the most evil part of the games :D and even has a full CG of the end of disk 1 (i wont say what happens, it'll spoil parts of disk 1 for you if i do, but players will hopefully know what i mean)

a new enemy attacks, beleived to be associated with sephrioth, in some trailers theres a shaowy person in a wheel chair, some people beleive it to be sephioth, others dont, but Cloud and Tifa are still in it :) there are many fight scenes, and its in full CG again, and looks ALOT more promising than The Spirits Within, and is blatenly going to be THE movie of the year when its released

ive recently got the new one, ffx-2, and it is really good. you can go sooo many different routes through the game and the puzzles really are hard. (sumtimes)

I've played quite a few FF games... the sixth, seventh, eight, ninth, tenth and "tenth-part-two" releases, plus Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Advance. My favourite is still the very first one I played through, Final Fantasy VII. Everything about it is great (the graphics are a little outdated, of course), and I regard it as the best videogame ever made.

I'm a fan of the series, but the recent games (to be more accurate, FFX and X-2) did disappoint me a little. They're still great games, but I notice somewhat of a quality decrease compared to the older ones, such as VI and VII.

Square had better schedule an european Advent Children release! I'm pretty confident they will, anyway, since the series are pretty popular worldwide. Japanese with subtitles, if I may ask.

FFVIII had a great soundtrack, that's for sure. The one thing I didn't like was the storyline (more like the time period - not much fantasy around) and the growth system. The GF thing didn't convince me.

As for FFX-2... it's a good game but, compared to the earlier FFs, it is overwhelmingly short. I got the perfect ending in just 40 hours. Too little, compared to the 150+ hours Final Fantasy X took me.

Every Final Fantasy is awsome I am currently playing 7 I've completed X and X-2 (but I got a crappy end sequence).

One thing I've noticed is that everyone who hates final fantasy usually hasn't even played on it. I watched someone play it and I thought it looked crap but when I had a go on it it played excellent and the amazing thing is that it was ff8 the worst one so when I played 9 I was completely and uterlly hooked on it I now own 7, 8, 9, 10 and 10-2. And I know there are people who have played it and don't like it and I don't want an earfull off them so this next bit is for people who haven't played it.

You can buy 7 and 8 for about 10 pound and 9 for about 15 so I urge everyone who hasn't played a Final Fantasy game at least give it a chance and for a tenner it's not going to set fire to your wallet so PLEASE AT LEAST PLAY A FINAL FANTASY GAME BEFORE YOU JUDGE IT.

Sounds like the first time I played through FFVII. I went through the whole Migdar part in one go. Imagine the look on my face when I check the time and realize I had been playing for 5/6 hours. :eek:

Golden Sun is a GBA version of Anthology (PSOne) isnt it?

The story of FF1 is that the apocolypse is coming, and the 4 light warriors will come to save the world, which starts with the typical saving princes from so-an-so, and healing elf prince etc. lol
You have to pay to revive someone, and sleeping in the inn doesnt revive someone, its so cheap in some ways, but so kool :D

Its about a boy and girl who's parents go missing, when they try to find them they get onto a mysterious train that takes them to a fantasy world (i forget its name, something like dreamland or something) then they meet up with a detective and a man with a gun that can summon

in the world is a baddy sending his henchmen to stop them, the kids are looking for their parents, and the detective woman is helping them, so far theres been many fights, summons, but not too much on story other than that

I've seen the first two episodes on FF unlimited and i have to say its quite dissapointing, and doesn't live up to FF's reputation. It seems repetitive like when an enemy shows up the kids and the girl struggle and then the Gun Guy comes and summons a monster and thats what happens throughtout most that i've seen. its a good anime for kids, but its made for about 12 year olds and anime fanatics

so its disapointing in many sences, but great in others

i think the easiest way to describe it is the first few episodes of Evangelion, they are so small fight scenes, and seem really crap, but once you watch the series it becomes excellent.
I think FF-U will be like that, but i only seen first 4 episodes atm, i'll let you know about next 4 when i get that dvd

I've seen about the first 20, I had to download them cuz they don't get broadcasted in the Netherlands but they're pretty good but there should be a little more action in the fight cuz all that happens is: The one with the gun sais it moved and he shoots the shit out of the enemy(wich looks good). The only fights that are pretty good are the fights with the demon swordsman.

I just ordered some ff games for my colection. I ordered FF Origins (I and II), FF Anthology (FF IV and FF V), FF VII, FF VIII and FF VIII strategy guide :p .
I allready have FF IX, X and X-2 and FF IX and X-2 strategy guides. I'm going to try to play all of them, though I'm not sure I will succeed :p .
Of all the (PS/PS2 games) games I only need FF III and FF VI, and I thought these are the same (one of them the european and one of them the american version or something like that).
I'm sure I have enough games to play for the upcoming years :D

incase you missed it FF7:AC ISNT being release in UK Cinema's nor is it American Cinema's, but it is being released straight to DVD

there are no word of a translation yet, so it may be subtitled, but we would expect them to translate :)

I only found region 1, but I thought the first DVD was allready released in the UK so there has to be a region 2 somewhere. Yeah, that's the series that GrandmasterB mentioned, Final Fantasy Unlimited. I haven't seen it yet, mainly because i've heard mixed opinions about it - some people say it's good, others say that it's not. The first two volumes are available in region 2 format.

As for where you can buy it in the UK, HMV usually has it in stock. Or if you want to buy it online try Play.com or Amazon. I think it's £14.99 with free delivery for each volume from Play.

Hard to say, since I haven't seen it yet. All I know is that it's about two kids who end up going to another world looking for their parents (or something like that). But I assume it features chocobos and a character calles Cid.

Final Fantasy totally rocks!

I've got I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and Tactics advance. I suppose you could call me a fanboy :D

My faves are definitely VII and X, they have hugely immersive storylines, and VII isn't afraid to dwell on some of the seedier sides of city life! Not forgetting Square stretching their censorship freedom to the extreme!

Does anyone know if III's ever gonna be released on PlayStation? It's the only numbered title I haven't got, and all my others are on PlayStation (except Tactics of course!)

I also got Xenogears on import a few years back (a Square side-project), and for me its up there with Final Fantasy VII (easily my fave FF) :D
I really enjoyed playing FF5 + 6 on re-release as well though.
I've recently made a History of FF site for my College coursework, but it isn't up yet...

PS. on the subject of the FF unlimited DVD's, I got phase1 from amazon.co.uk. Really good few episodes, and a DVD paked with extras. That was about two months ago, tho and theres still no date for phase2, altho you can get upto phase5 on import

I doubt it, I don't think Square-Enix (or Squenix as I shall call it form now on) make games for the PSOne anymore. But they are releasing the first two FF games for the GBA, so there might be a chance of FFIII being released. That's only a guess though.

It's all a matter of opinion. Most people do think FFVII is the best but i do not agree. Final fantasy VIII is the first FF i ever played and i still think it's my favourite, followed by FFX and FFV.

I really enjoyed Legaia 2 on the PS2, but don't know any else who has it. It got very poor reviews when it was released, but is a great game.

Sorry to go a bit off topic, but GTA:San Andreas was mentioned on this thread, so I thought some of you guys may be interested in this list of confirmed features for the game:

General
- The game is more serious than the others, but the elements of comedy are still there.
- A full staff of research personnel at Rockstar have been studying Las Vegas, San Diego, and Los Angeles for months to ensure that they truly capture the feelings of these cities.

Location
- The game will not take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Las Vegas. It will take place IN ALL THREE as well as the countryside in between.
- Los Angeles will be called Los Santos, San Francisco will be called San Fieero, and Las Vegas will be called Las Venturra.
- Each city is about the same size as Vice City.
- Not all cities will be open at the start of the game.
- The entire game will be about four to six times as large as Vice City.
- San Fierro (San Francisco) will have hills. This city is more driving based.
- You can drive from LA, through the countryside, up a mountain, into San Fran, and onto Las Vegas.
- Driving through the desert won’t be empty and plain with a couple cacti...it will be vibrant and alive with weird things to see.
- There will be a lot more buildings with open interiors.

Graphics
- The graphics engine has been tweaked. Smog will be present in LA, and real-time reflections on cars, windows, and mirrors, as well as new techniques like radial lighting, which allows for more realistic shadowing, and soft-shadow lighting for interior levels will be present.
- Everything in the game now has independent models for day and night to give better lighting and shadowing.
- The game will have ragdoll physics, or “impact animation” in Rockstar’s words.

Vehicles
- As for vehicles, there will be pimped-out lowriders, and 90’s versions of some GTA3/VC cars will return.
- There will be bicycles.

Story
- Characters from the past will return.

Gameplay
- In the Las Vegas city, you will be able to buy and build a casino - and then run it.
- You can then gamble your money in the casino.
- Your character can dual wield pistols and potentially other weapons.
- You need to eat to retain your stamina. If you eat too much fast food, you become fat and pedestrians mock you for being fat. You also run slower. To remedy this, you can go to a gym to exercise.
- You can now rob homes. The robberies will require skill and planning, however.
- You can recruit gang members and use them to do four person drive-by’s.
-Swimming ability

Weapons
- The choice of weapons will match the time in which the era of the early 90's.


Artificial Intelligence
- Enemy/pedestrian AI will be greatly revamped and they will think more logically. You can't beat someone to death in broad daylight and not have people notice and react.
- Your enemies will be smarter, which will make robbing houses take a lot of skill.


Music
- There will be a rap station, but there will be a variety of other stations as always. 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake and theHappy mondays will all have a track(s)on one of the many radio stations.

You can't really compare Zelda to FF, they're both different types of games - FF is an RPG, Zelda is more of an action/adventure. I'll say that the earlier games were both equally as good. :p

To be honest I don't think i've actually finished any of the games before FFVII. I keep meaning to pick up the PSOne versions, although I might wait for SquEnix to release the GBA versions of FFI and FFII.

As for renaming characters; well, the newer versions have speech, and it would be kinda' impossible to include every name imaginable, or have the characters refer to each other as 'Hey you!' all the time. I did prefer it when you could rename the characters though - it's always nice to have the choice.

Yeah, I guess that's one of the major disadvantages of RPGs with voiced dialogue. The only way around it is to not have anyone saying a character's name i.e. Tidus in FFX and Kite in .hack.

I like the idea of levelling up stats by how much attacking/magic/hits/hp etc you take. However i find it ridiculous how you have to keep cancelling your commands and re-entering them to be able to increase your stats later on, it really defies the point of a game.

I have I,II,IV,V,VI. the amazing VII, VIII IX X and X-2 for the various ps.
I also have tactics advance.

My fav is obviously 7 cuz of its stoyryline, cool lead character and quite possibly the most nasty bad guy i have seen in a while. It was also my first rpg. I love chocobos especially the red one in 9.
Moogles are cute but annoying kupo and i want to see more moombas.

In a past page someone was on about gs summons. My fav was isis as it deals sick damage and heals ur team. ?What a reward for all 21 djinni of each element.

It doesn't really, only in the fact that you have to get 100% to see the mega special ending (which is pap if you haven't). Basically, there are 3 endings - one if you play the game through normally, say your first try where you miss things. Thats known as the Common ending. Then theres the Good, which you have to press X at the end when your in that garden place to get, and the Perfect ending for doing/seeing everything in regards to the storyline for 100% completion.
Theres other stuff to do to get the Good+ endings, like speaking Maechen everytime, whistling 3 times when Yuna falls into the Farplane, blah blah.
I think theres probably more things you have to do, but I can't remember then of the top of my head :)

PS. There are more than 3 endings. Theres actually quite a lot, cos your actions during the game, eg. who you give the sphere to, affects some scenes in the game, and at the end.

I think Final Fantasy is a really cool collection of games. It's cool how they managed to make every game with a new story. Except for Final Fantasy X-2 that is, the first true sequal.

Plus CC and Tactics and Tactics advance. I love them! Or maybe im a Sqaure-Enix fan? Anyway. CC is fun when you're playing one-player, though it does get tiring. Especially after the continuos stroll through all the dungeons. (And when i say "Continuos stroll"

I agree about the Dress-Spheres. Very original idea.
But Sqaure could've made some new places...I got tired of the games since i was running through places i had already been through in FF X, so i'd say they werent only slacking off in FF X but in this one too.

Back on topic (FF) has anyone ever seen the FF anime series? Not the sequel to FF5, but FF:Unlimited...its kick ass! But the DVDs are getting released like once every 3 months :(

Ah Ive downloaded the first ep at home last night before braodband fell over!
But was watching Escaflowne : the movie

Hm never really liked kazaa after it came ad supported :mad:
Also tried Morpheus..UGH! It WRECKED my pc by saying all media files go throgh it even after deleting it and I cant change the setting back!! BAH :apocalypticmad: ;)

I've only got the first 8 episodes on DVD...but its your normal length anime series, about 26 ep's I think.

Don't use kazaa, use BitTorrent instead..
There are many good BitTorrent sites out there on the web, just search on www.google.com ;)
