hmmmm....I think it was on a site where you can dl anime and I dl the whole fansubbed serie 1-26
(yeah I know what ppl out there are thinking...."it's illegal even if it's fansubbed" but you know what there's a bunch of shit out there and if you don't want to buy the cat in the sack then you have to see what you are gonna buy. AND I DO BUY THE ANIME I LIKE EVEN THOUGH I DOWNLOADED IT TO SEE IT!!!)
but again there I was with 26 episodes of a anime I didn't know anything about. I watched the first episode and then the next and the next and etc etc etc all in a day and was like WOW SO GREAT^^ A MUST HAVE!!!

I did leave the anime on my com since you don't know if it's going to be out in usa or not cuz there are a lot of anime that doesn't get released in usa but are really great. After some months thinking about how great it was and if that really was the end of the anime I found out the first volume was released in USA. I ran down to my dvd-store and ordered the limited edition but couldn't get it so I had to manage with the normal edition but have been getting the limited editon since then^^

So ppl! that was my story now it's your turn^^

Well it was at the beginning of the past year (2003), my brother who had downloaded and seen the series who said me "you must watch it!". He said it was a great project and all, so I watched it... I began the ep.1 at 5.00pm, and I finished with the 27 at 6.00am ... impossible to "log out" lol.
So since this day I have downloaded all the series and OVA's, and I'm waiting for the first french dvd which will be released at the end of the month. I don't know if the french edition will have a limited one or not (if its not the case, i'll try to buy the US limited of course ;) )
I have also bought all the Ost's.
And I'm waiting for more money to buy the games ;)

Back in 2002, when .hack//SIGN started airing in japan, some fansubbers started subbing it, and since I checked up on these fansubbers' releases I started downloading the episodes and grew a bigger .hack fan with every ep that I watched. I used to play Ultima Online for 2 years before that and so the theme of .hack was really interesting to me.

The fansubbers stopped subbing the episodes after episode 7 because bandai announced .hack//SIGN for a US release...but in some way or another I got around to watch the rest of the episodes. I didn't buy the US dvd because I don't like supporting US dvd labels, for various reasons. However, if theres a local release of the dvds then I'm going to buy those for sure. It's an awesome series...

I meet .hack trough the sountrack... ^^

Then Iīve started with the fansubs..

And now Iīll buy all limited US DVDīs because i want the extras and the japanese DVDīs donīt have many extra stuff -.-°

I own three of four games (US) and I will not buy the PAL version because, i feel that the convertion will be terrible...

I know this is off-topic, but I find the JP->US conversion quite bad already, I doubt they can make it any worse with the US->PAL conversion. The US games don't have "parody mode", sometimes the english subtitles are pretty off (imo..) and on some cutscenes you don't even get any subtitles. Also, when you replay cutscenes with japanese dub you won't get the english subtitles at all. I prefer the JP dub, so these problems bug me quite a bit...
Also, the JP version comes with a box to hold all 4 volumes (similar to DVD boxes), whereas the US version doesn't have one afaik.

But I can understand that you dont want to buy the pal release, I'm not going to buy those myself...

Insted of that you have a bad englisch DUB, youīre right.. -.-

Not really...

This accurs also in the japanese Version AFAIK

Only perorders, only preordes my friend... but Iīll get this Box.... somehow ^^°

There is one change that i hate the most and the parody modus is nothing between this change, but I understand that change well...

They Changed the form of Skeiths Wand... ok itīs sth. that not all could understand... but i fear that a symbolic thing has been lost during this "SIGN-CHANGE"... Skeiths wand has the same form as it has in SIGN... this should be good... but in the japanese Version of the games.. the Wand was a cross... (I hate this, when different studios works on the same project and storyboard.. small changes were made -.-)

I like both versions somehow... but this change was IMHO really unimportant...

well, I started to download the fansub while it was airing in japan, so I had to wait every time for a new episode...
For the games, I own and played the first two US episodes, so I wonīt buy the PAL release, too. BTW, it will not have parodie mode either, AFAIK.

I was very happy when .hack/dusk (I know itīs not the official name, but itīs a lot shorter ;-)) started, so I got that fansub, too. I was a little disapointed, but itīs still worth watching it.

Err yes, that might be true, but since I prefer the JP dub, and yet cannot understand it its really bad that they don't solve this bug in the US version. The JP games were released almost a year before the US games, so Bandai should've known about the bug and I think it's not that difficult to solve this kind of bug.

About Skeith's wand...I don't mind that, and to be honest, I didn't notice it :P

hmmmm...games.......

got a question? can you play ntsc on playstation 2 since I don't have ps2 I haven't tried it( yeah some of you must be saying what he don't got ps2 and he still gonna buy the games, must be a idiot.......my answer is; I'm not idiot just insane^^)

But I must agree with you guys I want the original game meaning no interference from usa or other country (don't ruin the message in the game, ne?^^)

About the sub; it's weird that fansubbes are better to translate games or animes then game- and cartoon- companies. I'ts sucks but it's true seen it in the american edition of hack. Thats also one of my reasons for learning japanese (yeah already finished first semester^^)

Um... I guess I'm late into this thread as well... I hope you don't mind me replying to everything at once...

I came to .hack through .hack//SIGN. I downloaded the fansubs, 1-26, and then... took about a year to watch them. ^_^;; The middle of the series was a bit boring and my attention span is shot from playing video games too much... and Tsukasa *really* annoys me sometimes. And, well, so did some of the others... ^_^;;;

But I also really like the series because I like RPGs, and it's *really accurate* about how people communicate online!! It's amusing. The whole series is like one big miscommunication. Haha! When I was at university... I'm going to sound really old and tell you it was 1997, I was in my first year, there was this one lecturer (called Dr. Dave Robson) who did a course on the sociology of people communicating through the internet. The internet wasn't so widespread like nowadays, you see... and it was all really fascinating, but he never got it or understood it nearly as accurate as the makers of .hack//SIGN...

Also the soundtrack is excellent. I so fell in love with it! ^_^

I bought the first DVD from the US because it came with a t-shirt, OST1, and a box and a plushie puragurosu (which for some reason they seemed to call a "grunty")... and... Bandai "Enderdainment" really messed it up. And the t-shirt was made in Burma! That's really unethical! Companies aren't supposed to invest there anymore! And they kept translating Kinkan to Silver Knight or something and got things wrong, and it was really annoying. So I didn't buy any more of them. ¬_¬ I might do in the future though, if I find them ultra-cheap, just for the soundtrack-only versions of the show they do as extras. I like those. It's like a music video, if music videos were good...

I don't like Bandai Entertainment US releases of anime DVDs anymore. I'd rather have the original subtitle-less, 2 episodes per volume, costing *an absolute fortune and more*, Japanese R2 Bandai Visual versions of any series than go with the US release.... (also it means I don't give any more of my money to the unethical US government and enough of my money already pours into the unethical UK goverment, just from working, living and eating here...). But it costs so much money I can't do that. No-one can. Ah, the rare item hunters of the world are such exploited beasts!

I have no problems with fansubs. I happily downloaded .hack//GIFT way after .hack was licensed... I don't feel it's relevant for a fansub to become non-distributable down to what's been licensed in the US, when region-restriction exists to make it "illegal" for people here in Europe to buy DVDs from overseas to watch anyway.

I wish western licensing companies would get it right and just give us what we want; translations (not localisations, not editing, not dubs) in a short amount of time. Saving money on re-recording an inferior dub version, they could charge less and have more room on the disk to provide a better picture quality.

Oh and... no you can't play US or JAP games on a European PS2, unless you get it modchipped (and I don't know if those things are 100% - I never got one). It's like a region-restriction thing. It's really annoying I have a .hack//INFECTION demo disk and I can't try it out, even though I own a perfectly good, perfectly legal, full price PS2, and have a perfectly good, perfectly legal demo disk!

However, one thing I wanted to say is that the European PAL-version PS2 has no problems playing things in NTSC if the game supports it. Some games, um, I can't think of any... oh yeah. Dead Or Alive 2 for the PS2 has a "60hz mode", which you can choose at the start. So it then plays the game in NTSC. Of course then your TV has to support NTSC as well... (or it all comes out black and white). (Dead Or Alive 2 for the PS2 also comes dual Japanese and English! Ah! This is how they should release games in Europe!!)

[sigh] End of rant! ^_^

I got myself a modchip when INFECTION was released in the US, let me say this much: BEST INVESTMENT EVER!

Anyway, the "black and white" problem is very common, you need to buy either a TV which supports NTSC or a smiple RGB cable for your PS2. The ps2 just comes with standard SCART afaik, but if you use a RGB cable (the one with the yellow, white and red cables) the problem should be solved.

well I got my PS2 and I was searching for some rpg's ... I stumbled upon .hack, but when I discovered the game had been in America for about half a year and it still didn't show up in Europe, I gave up hope.

Until a month ago when I heard .hack was going to be released in Europe. I heard of the .hack//SIGN series but I haven't seen them anywhere ... I guess I will see them eventually

1 year ago, we, my brother and me, were talking about anime and stuff, mostly DBZ and Kenshin, how I missed the old days on the French tv, so he started talking about this anime called '.hack//Sign', he started saying that it was an anime about this guy who is stuck in an mmorpg, I tough cool, because I like RPG's, that moment I was really in to Final Fantasy 6 (yes, 6, it came out on ps1, but I downloaded it on Snes emu :D ) and I was:' Did you bring it here?' and so it began, I didn't like it back then, but now I'm loving it, lol !

Tenshi_a; I agree with you about that all legel and illegal....I full understand you when you talk about american games licensed and japanese not..........but thats how the reality is.......yaeh reality suckz and it will be doing that untill ppl get together adn do something about it.
Some ppl have to pay a greater amount of money to get the same as others and some ppl don't even get the chance to see and get the things others get even if they can pay for it^^ and thats why we got fansubbers^^
JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN GET IT IN AMERICA DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN GET IT HERE^^
an example could be Hikaru no Go, a great anime which got lisenced before the last 2 episodes by the company Viz (they also sell mangas). What the hell (sorry about the language) was I suppose to do? Even if I waited to Viz to chatch up to the last 2 episodes it would do me no good cuz VIZ DON'T SELL OUTSIDE NORTHAMERICA AND CANADA (don't know if they sell to England though). If someone didn't subbed those last episode "illegel" I would go on thinking how it all ended.^^

So the only things I buy are those I'm in love with^^(hack hack hack hack hack lol) and I'm paying the dobbelt amount to get it, see that how reality is.

and guys thx for the info about the modchip^^

Can't wait to get the games.....it will be the 26/3-04 here when I get the chance to buy them^^
